It seems strange to celebrate World Wetlands Day when the temperature is 27 degrees and the ground is partially snow covered!
Our Wetland/Environmental Specialists are trained in winter plant identification and continue to evaluate wetlands all year round (when mild conditions allow) with follow ups in the Spring for confirmation of their winter assessments.
Summary of USACE/EPA Fact Sheet:
BME Associates has reviewed the updated definition of Waters of the United States (WOTUS) and per the EPA and USACE, the new rule will resort back to the pre-2015 definition, The rule will protect Relatively Permanent waters, and Significant Nexus waterbodies. These include wetlands connected to downstream waterbodies, and wetlands that significantly impact the chemical, physical, or biological composition of navigable waters. Exclusions such as agricultural waterbodies and artificially irrigated areas would not be considered WOTUS. The new rule will result in more regulated wetlands and more subjective jurisdictional determinations.
BME Associates continues to delineate wetlands within the Greater Rochester Area and across New York State. BME works closely with the NYSDEC and/or the USACE to obtain Jurisdictional Determinations, water quality certificates, wetland development permits and to design and monitor wetland mitigation projects.
Our services provide a current analysis of on-site wetland conditions allowing property owners to balance the protection of high-quality wetlands with the development of land that improves our local community.
