Established this year, Excellence in Construction & Real Estate awards celebrate the companies who are changing the landscape of the Rochester region through design, construction, project management, innovation and more. These organizations are creating jobs, building healthy spaces, helping families and companies achieve their dreams, and leading the way toward growth and prosperity for the community.
BME has had a role in developing spaces where people of the Rochester region live, work and play. “BME is a firm of 30 people with the capabilities to accomplish a large volume of work,” said BME President Peter Vars. “The engineers, surveyors, landscape architects and staff at BME have the expertise to accomplish our clients’ projects, from complex, high visibility to small-scale straightforward projects, while also meeting the needs of the communities we work in.”
Each project comes with a unique set of challenges and BME’s ability to overcome these challenges and design projects that are both beneficial to the community, and achieve client goals, is what drives them to succeed. Vars sums up BME’s approach, “Working with our clients to bring their vision to reality is our objective, and our true measure of success.”
In a letter of recommendation for this award, Mark Stevens of Ashley Management Company writes, “The selection of BME Associates has proven to be one of the best decisions we made for this project known as Hathaway’s Corners, in Farmington, NY.” He continues, “Every member of their team has taken a sense of ownership in the project as they have transformed our vision into reality. They are an asset to both this industry and to the community.”
“BME Associates is one of the most qualified Engineering firms in the Rochester area and they are more than deserving of the award,” said Russ LeFrois, of LeFrois Builders & Developers in a letter of recommendation. Currently, BME is working on several projects with LeFrois, including Wiregrass Business Park in Henrietta, Panorama Park in Penfield, and American Equipment in the Town of Farmington and Bobcat of the Finger Lakes in the Town of Waterloo.
“BME Associates with their staff of talented engineers, landscape architects, environmental technicians, and surveyors, have a highly qualified team to not only design a new development, but also they have the rapport to work through the necessary government approvals,” said Bryan Powers, of Mark IV Enterprises. Projects BME has worked on with Mark IV include Greenwood Park in the Town of Ogden, Lehigh Park in the Town of Henrietta and Webster Woods in the Town of Webster.
“We work with the developer to determine the optimum use of the property, its compliance with local zoning and how to achieve their development goals practically and economically. This includes working closely with the municipality to ensure the development meets the goals of the community,” Vars said. “We provide land survey, land planning, engineering design, municipal approvals & regulatory permitting and construction management so that what starts as a developer’s idea on paper becomes projects approved and constructed.”
BME is honored to receive a 2019 Excellence in Construction & Real Estate Award.

“BME has been Wilmorite’s engineer of choice for site engineering, environmental engineering, land use planning, surveying and landscape design for over 25 years,” said Jim McKenna, Vice President of Wilmorite. “BME Associates has time and time again helped Wilmorite creatively solve environmental, design and construction problems while making the final project design better than originally envisioned.”
BME has teamed up with Architecture firm Mossien Associates on several projects, including the Hampton Inn, Penn Yan. “Every single member of their team is highly responsive, bright at what they do, and most personable,” said President and CEO Dan Mossien. “We look forward to continued collaboration for many years to come.”
